In Search of a Rainbow
Through the voices of those who have endured interfaith violence, this documentary shines a light on the courage and resilience of couples fighting for their right to love freely.

Synopsis
In Search of a Rainbow chronicles the lives of interfaith and inter-caste couples in India as they navigate entrenched prejudice, legal hurdles, and the constant threat of violence. Filmed in Delhi and Dehradun over multiple schedules, the documentary follows Dhanak of Humanity, a survivor-led NGO that provides legal aid, shelter, and emotional support to those in danger.
Blending observational camerawork with first-hand testimony, the film captures both the quiet moments of intimacy and the stark realities of fear and resistance. It is an unflinching look at a struggle that persists despite constitutional guarantees, and a testament to the resilience of those who refuse to be silenced.
Longlisted in the Student category of the
2025 One World Media Awards for showcasing underrepresented stories from the Global South.

Why This Story Matters?
In India, interfaith and inter-caste couples face harassment, violence, and even death. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, at least 145 honour killings were officially reported in 2021 — with experts warning the true number in the thousands, due to chronic underreporting. These attacks are often carried out by family members and emboldened by political rhetoric and restrictive “anti-conversion” laws.
This film seeks to amplify voices living under such threats, challenge systemic discrimination, and contribute to wider conversations on equality, justice, and the fundamental right to choose one’s partner.
